Policy Statement
Expectation of Students
Students will take off shoes and wash hands before lessons start. Students may not chew gum or bring in food for lessons. Students are required to practice 6 days a week. The time of practicing depends on level of expertise per student. Beginner students must practice underneath parent supervision.
Expectations of Parents
Parents are also required to make sure students are on time to lessons. Parents should be supportive of students and should come to lessons frequently.
Payment
Lessons for the previous month need to be paid for by the 10th of each month. If payment is late, a $10 fee will be added to the lesson fee for the last month. Lessons will not be refunded for no shows. This included if a student is sick. If a circumstance comes up, I must get at least a 72-hour notice to reschedule a lesson. If a student is late, I will only teach the remaining of the lesson time and do not deduct price for the loss of time. I accept payment on Venmo. My username is @meeshmnielsen
Payment will go as follows:
Beginner: $30 for 30 minute lessons, held weekly, paid at beginning of month
Intermediate: $45 for 45 minute lessons, held weekly, paid at beginning of month
Advanced: $60 for 60 minute lessons, held weekly, paid at beginning of month
Recitals
I believe that all musicians must gain experience in performing. I will do 2 recitals a year, Spring and Fall/Winter. I will let you know the dates ahead of time and the location as well. If I need to rent a space, there will be a small recital fee due the month of the recital.
Materials
I teach a wide variety of exercises and this requires students to have a variety of books depending on their level. These materials are to improve each student’s ability to play the piano. My favorite beginner lesson books are Bastien and Piano Adventures. I also use technique charts in which if the student completes, a reward is given. These materials do cost and I expect parents to provide the materials or reimburse me if I go get the materials. There are many music stores in Provo/Orem and American Fork. You can also look online to order piano books as well. I can also get materials for students. Although, an added fee to cover the cost will be added to the next month’s payment.
Calendar
I base my lesson schedule on the current school schedule. There will be no lessons during Fall Break, Labor Day, Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas and New Years week, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Spring Break, Memorial Day, and Independence Day. Lesson times during the summer, will start the week after school gets out. Lessons during the school year will start the week before school starts. Time slots will be at a first come, first serve basis.
Rescheduling
I reschedule if I have 72 hours of advanced notice. If you don’t show up, I don’t reschedule. I can try to switch lessons with other students if needed. If not, then I will fit you in on a makeup day during the week.
I send out emails in regards to any studio news, such as times for recitals, or if I am concerned about your child’s practicing, lessons, etc. My email is mnielsenpianostudio@gmail.com.
Allergies
I give out candy at lessons. Please let me know if your child has any allergies.
